It is definitely the choke or the fast idle cam. Look at these.

: My 1970 straight 6 Mav starts right up- no problem. BUT I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it going until it warms up. This is driving me nuts. And eating gas and time. And until Saturday when I can afford to get a new exhaust system, driving my neighbors nuts.
