...I had the same problem w/ My '70 & Carter YF. The car would idle & run fine for about 5 miles & then cut out. It didn't stall, just go to idle. If I let it sit & idle for a few minutes I could get it going again, but it would repeat it's fun little trick shortly after. Especially bad at 60 mph on an uphill. Sometimes tapping on the side of the carb would seem to help. Turns out the float was sticking in the fuel bowl, allowing it to run dry! There was just enough fuel flow into the carb to let it idle, but as soon as I hit the throttle, the flow out was greater than the flow in;-) This took me a LONG time to diagnose. It was also real easy to fix:-))
