Well, did you turn the drums? You need to do so. That is a big cause of the car "wandering." Wheel cylinder kit? I'd just replace the wheel cylinder to save the trouble. Usually the wheel cylinders are rusty inside and don't last long when rebuilt.
To adjust the brakes, use the adjuster (I'm assuming basic drum system knowledge) until the shoes are far enough out that the drum is a close fit on. it's okay if it scrapes when you turn the drum after it is installed. The drum shouldn't just slide on.
The Maverick brakes are self-adjusting, when driving in reverse & braking they are supposed to adjust (not so sure how well they do, though). -CP

: I put new shoes on all 4 wheels on my mav. I havn't driven it yet, because I need to put a wheel cylinder kit on the front right wheel. The wheel cylinders arn't the same on the left, that really confuses me. Anyway...How do you adjust the brakes, so they brake evenly?
