There is a Mexican block that is really beefy as far as the casting is concerned, but I have been drag racing a 74 Mav for last 5 years and use 70's era blocks with no problems. ford heads for screw in studs and guide plates, will just about equal the cost of a set of good aftermarket heads. Was running a set of reworked 302 heads at first on a 1000ft strip, car ran 10:50's, bolted on a set of Edelbrock performer rpm's and car ran 9:49 out of the box with no other mods. This is without using nitrous. Ford small blocks are tuff little engines all the way around.
