the 85 is flat tappet. just regular old 302 with TBI. nothing special, like 69cc combustion chambers... 8.4:1 comp ratio. decent, but not great.

: : Now i have a question about 302's. A guy i know is going to sell me a good running 85 302 out of a lincon he says it is a standard 302 not a 302 H.O. and it has TBI that a plan to switch over to a edelbrock perf. RPM and a holley carb, would that have a roller cam in it also? I plan to change cams i know that if it was a flat tappet cam i would have to change the lifters would i still have to change them if it was a roller cam?
: : thanks for clearing up my confusion.
: Roller lifters don't necessarily have to be changed when you change cams. Since there is no sliding taking place between the cam lobe and the lifter, you don't get unique wear patterns as with hyd. cams. Just remove the lifters (keeping them in order of removal) and give them a good visual inspection. If you find anything that doesn't look right (excessive play of the roller on its pin or just general signs of excessive clearances) replace them.
