Your books are WRONG...'73-'76 302s have 8.0:1 stock compression ratio; '77 was 8.4:1 even though they had larger combustion chambers because '77s used a taller piston... AND...air-injection holes can be easily plugged...
: I have two books that say the 73 had 8.5:1 , and I never said the 351W heads will increase comp. ratio , I said that the 289 heads and the 68 302 4v heads will.The reason I said to go with these others heads is if he cannot afford it to go with aftermarket.My 68 302-4v from my Mustang also had slightly dished pistons ,the 302 from the early years came that way(excluding anything after 81) I have owned several 302's , 68 69 71 75 78 and all had dished pistons.The reason I said for him to dump those heads is because of the air injection holes which he doesn't need anymore.
