Craig, The rattle you hear is a pretty normal occurance with an Aspire with those kind of miles. In the summer time you could run 20w50 racing oil. But in the winter time and with us bein almost neighbors, ( i am IL and craig is IN) I would not advise a 15w40 oil. On a sub zero morning that stuff is like glue. Synthetic oil will give you much faster lubrication to the top end of the motor in winter time. But synthetic oil will leak in areas that conventional oil wont. Why? because synthetic oil is slicker by design. I would stick with the 10w30 in the winter time, or you could do 10w40 too. Oh by the way my credentials in this area are..Managed the busiest 2 bay quick lube in the US. Still work there on a part time basis and have 35,000 oil changes under my belt. I am getting to old to do the day to day activities of a job like that IE.. my feet wont take it anymore lol

: I have a question about my "daily driver", but I am sure everybody can benefit from the answer.

: I drive a 1995 Ford Aspire (OK, OK...get up off the floor). It has 145,000 miles on it. The engine is starting to "rattle" a little bit when I first start the car. I think with the miles, that the engine is geeting a little "loose" with wear.

: I was wondering what you would recommend as far as motor oil for this 4 cyl car with this many miles on it. I have been using 10W30 Valvoline Semi-Senthetic, but somebody recommend using a 15W40 oil.

: I guess I am ignorant when it comes to oil "weights" and was wondering what I should use. Keep in mind, it gets cold here in Indiana.
