: I found a 1964 Ford Pickup that supposedly has a 1967 Ford Mustang 351W. How can I determine if in fact this motor is a 67 Stang block. I'm a little suspicious because it has a two-barrel carb. Finally, how can I tell if it is a ford 9" rear. Thanks in advance!
Hmmm....i'm not real versed on the mustangs, but i don't even know that the '67 came with a 351W, and if it had, it prolly would have been a 4bbl. It doesn't really matter though, a 351 is a 351 (unless you go to the M and C). A 9" is pretty easy to spot, you can tell it apart from the other rears by a couple of things:
The 8" have a smooth round back, with "dimples". The 9" has a formed back which has a bump where the ring gear goes. Also, if you were to take a center section from an 8" and a 9", you wouldn't be able to fit a socket on the 9" because the pinion shaft hangs down over the nut (so you have to use a wrench)...the 8" you can use a socket on.
