: When I only had the 302 I was planning on rebuilding it, putting in a bigger cam, multipoint fuel injection system, and twin turbos. But now that I picked up the 289 (for free) I was wondering how much you could "beef" them up, or would it just be a waste of a good 289? And how do you check to see what "code" it is?
although I don't know where the casting is on the block, the heads have the numbers in the rocker valley or whatever its called, something like C6**. four digits, it should tell you what heads you have, then you can find out what engine it was. I think all the 289 shortblocks are the same. if you're going twin turbo, the 302/5.0 turbos are gonna take a little more tuning to get to run properly with a 289, but the topend will really come alive. adding beef to the 289 will be pretty much the same as upgrading a 302.
