: ...Charlie's right, starting in '73 the compression ratios really took a "nosedive" and so did performance(though 289 heads on a 302 will RAISE the ratio not lower it...I know Charlie, you meant that!). Then things started looking up in the mid 80's Mustangs, C.R.'s began climbing back up and roller cams and EFI helped put the 'kick' back in the 302 (though now called a 5.0.) There's a LOT of discussion on this very subject in the archives...December I think, worth a look!
