: I'm going to be bracket racing my maverick this season using the original, freshened 250ci straight six. The car currently has an 8 inch rear with 2.79 gears. I was thinking to upgrade to 3.55's or even 4.11's for lower ET's. While this is still a street car, lowest ET is the most important thing so I'm prepared to deal with doing only 55mph on the highway with the increased ratio. Does anyone have any firsthand experience with this deep of a gear with a 250ci six? Any advice, comments, or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.
Are you using a std. or auto trans? In bracket racing the reaction time and first 60 foot times are probably more important than the fastest ET. What track are you running, 1/8th-1000ft or 1/4 mile. There are many variables to consider before choosing a gear. Will be glad to help if I can. Been doing bracket racing for last 7 years.
