...The top-loader is a straight bolt-on application. You may encounter some tolerance issues with the shift linkage. The T5 has a longer input shaft & requires either an adapter plate or new bell-housing. Since it has internal shift rails, you needn't worry about clearance. You also get more driving flexibility with the extra gear. Both are plenty strong (the toploader is REALLY strong - aka the "rock crusher"). The "3+1" is ok, but the gear spacing is as wide as the standard 3-speed, just with an overdrive gear. Picture the T5 without 2nd gear. That's why it is not a great choice for fun. Unless you can do some internal gear-swapping;-)

So is it the general consensus that those particular 4-speed tranny aren't very good? Is there a 4-speed that is a good alternative. Sorry, but 3-speed in modern traffic sucks. Can I go with the later t5 tranny in the mustangs? 4-speed would be nice but 5-speed would kick ass. Give me your thoughts on this. Once again thanks for taking the time to help a wanna-be mechanic.
