You have to remember that most of the teachers out there were around in the early to mid-70's when Chevy ruled performance (especially for anyone on a budget). The high school kids today are into FoMoCo Blue (just look at the sales of the Mustang compared to Camaros). So yeah, there probably is a culture difference between you and you teachers.

As a teacher for 12 years, I can tell you that the majority of teachers do know their stuff and do care about the kids in their classrooms and shops. Unfortunately, SOME teachers find it entertaining to "bust the chops" of their students. My advice to you is to: 1) learn all you can about cars from your teacher (it doesn't matter if it's a Chevy, Mopar, Ford, or Lexus, they all run the same), and 2)learn that it's not cool to be closed minded and condenscending to others.

And by the way, if any of you "experts" want to show your teachers how easy it is to work with 20 kids, most of whom can't read or spell (read some of the posts on this site), can't follow directions, have 100 different excuses why they can't complete homework assignments (and then have their parents call up to complain), can't stay quiet and pay attention for more than 2 minutes at a time, and want their teacher to entertain them, should become teachers - there's a tremendous shortage of good teachers right now.

If you read this far, you at least know what I'm talking about. If you want to keep GOOD teachers in the field, you need to support them. Do the GOOD teachers that you've had a real service: 1) go back to your school and thank them for helping you become successful, and 2) become involved in your school district's politics to be sure that the auto/technology/industrial arts programs are well-funded and supported.
