: I have had two condensors "get weak" as you call it. The car runs awful and eventually it dies. It doesn't "take the gas" as you might call it. The spark is weak becuse the condensor is not doing its job, and the spark is blown out. I have replaced condensors on other cars having the same problem. It can and does happen. -CP

: : A condenser is either good or bad, there's such thing as a condenser getting weak or "going out"!Check fuel volume? who has a flow meter on there engine?

: : : : Hi, I replaced my head gasket in my 1973. My mechanic friend and I got it running. I drove it five miles to work, left it sitting there for four days. When I went to take it home again it started right up and half way home, 2.5 miles, it started lugging like it wasn't getting gas. When I pressed on the gas it felt like it wanted to die. I barely made it home and now it won't run. We have checked the gas, replaced the fuel filter, checked the spark plugs and wires. Checked the points, set the timing to static, and charged the battery. We also checked the carburator to see if the float was stuck, nope. So any ideas on how to get my yellow baby back up and running would be fabulous. I know it has more years left on it but not if it sits in my garage. So thank you guys for any ideas. :-)

Charlie!

Once again a conderser is either "GOOD" or "BAD",it "MUST" read infinite. If it does it's good,if it don't it's bad "PERIOD"
It can not have any other values, there is no range on a condenser, that's why there good or bad,and NEVER "Weak" or going out.
Now on to checking fuel volume! By turning over the engine and catching the fuel in a container only tells You that the fuel pump is putting out fuel at cranking RPM not when the engine is running!
To check total fuel volume to the jets You need a inline flowmeter, such as a Foxboro Vortex,Omega,Signet etc. They read in GPH over a wide range of RPM,these meters are very expense,I doubt anyone on this board has one installed on there car.
As far as Alison's problem with the car goes it could be something as simple as the points were lose and they closed up to a cracked coil. The possibilities are many.
As far as "YOUR" problem with "picking Your commets apart"! Well I did not! And i never said that You were a idiot either. As far as You Knowing what Your talking about, well a weak spark is not caused by a condenser "not doing it's job"
many reasons for a weak spark, but that's not one of them.
I usually sit back and let everyone post there ideas on a problem,it's good experience for all,but this time my input was called wrong by You,hence the long post.
BTW I have have been working on cars since 1953,when did You start?
Have a good one!
