Sure, disconnect the fuel line and get a coffee can or something that will hold a large volume of fuel (preferably that can meeasure the volume as well) Make sure your battery is strong enough to turn the engine over several times, and turn it over for 10 seconds, catching the fuel in the can. I couldnt find specs for the Maverick anywhere at work today, but you should get about a half-gallon in that amount of time. It should spray out pretty strong, if it is the problem then you will see it is obviously weak.
If your car isn't running, and you haven't replaced the condenser yet, do so. I really think this is the problem. Also, check for spark by having a friend turn the eninge over and holding a the coil wire close to a ground. If it sparks, then you have some spark, anyway. (Be sure not to do this around the gasoline!!!) -CP

: Okay the fuel tank is full. I filled it up in fear of Y2K. Is there a possibility that the carb is getting too much fuel and flooding the engine so it dies? CP how do I measure the amount per second? My friend must have gotten the fuel from the carb when he tested it for water, but he could check to see how much is coming out if you can explain it to me. :-)

: : : Check fuel volume? who has a flow meter on there engine?

: : : To check volume, turn the engine over and catch the fuel in a container, and measure amount per second. Please, don't pick apart my comments. I am not an idiot, and know what I am talking about. -CP

: : : : : : : Hi, I replaced my head gasket in my 1973. My mechanic friend and I got it running. I drove it five miles to work, left it sitting there for four days. When I went to take it home again it started right up and half way home, 2.5 miles, it started lugging like it wasn't getting gas. When I pressed on the gas it felt like it wanted to die. I barely made it home and now it won't run. We have checked the gas, replaced the fuel filter, checked the spark plugs and wires. Checked the points, set the timing to static, and charged the battery. We also checked the carburator to see if the float was stuck, nope. So any ideas on how to get my yellow baby back up and running would be fabulous. I know it has more years left on it but not if it sits in my garage. So thank you guys for any ideas. :-)
