: I have a 67 c-4 in my mav that needs a rebuild. I've heard that the early C-4 have better internals. IF this is true can I still get parts for it. Would I be better off getting mine rebuilt? or buying a rebuilt one off the shelf?

:Rebuild kits are still available for your early C4, if you have never been inside one they are really quite simple to rebuild. I have done many of them for my sons racing Maverick. Of course you must have a variety of tools to accomplish the job, so if this is a one time thing you might be better off to swap out for a shelf one. Be sure to get the same early model trans. because they have a 24 spline input shaft. The later models ( 70 and up) have a 26 spline input shaft. You can even find some later ones with 5 disc clutch packs instead of 4 discs. If the C4 is built correctly, and with a good valve body, it will handle 400+ HP. There are some other factors involved in keeping these trannys in one piece. E-mail me and I can give you more info.
