I have the lowest compression 302 that I know of from factory, 8:1. you may not get as much timing as me safely if you have more compression.

: : It's a Mallory Electronic. I'm running a 0.060 65 289 with 65 heads, and I don't have any troubles running 34 on the top end. Pulls real good!

: : : Mine won't run at 6, its suppose to be set at 10 stock, I ran it at 12 for awhile, bumped it up to 14, then just advanced the damn thing as far as it would go, running something like 16 intial right now, does great. I will say this tho, on the earlier engines with higher compression, you can't run as much timing, but I'd start with 10.
