There were three different types of turn signal switches in the Mavericks. The '69, late '70 to 73, and 74-up. The latter is still availible, I think. He needs to say what year the Maverick is. He says a Pinto switch is the same. I have never heard this, but if it is it would not be every year Pinto, so this needs clarfication as well. -CP

: Q: How do I replace the turn signal/hazard switch on my Maverick or
: Comet?

: A: The switch was discontinued in 1997 it will take some work to find
: another one. You can get a new one from Greens Sales (a.k.a. Obsolete
: Ford Parts)@ 800-543-4959 for, get this, $75.00! Ouch! I suggest a
: local pick-your-part place. Note that the Ford Pinto switch is of
: identical design if you can't find a Maverick/Comet.

: 1. Remove the two trim retaining screws from behind the steering
: column, remove the horn trim and unhook the horn wires.

: 2. Be sure and mark the position ON THE SHAFT that points to the top
: of the steering wheel. This will help make sure the wheel is put back
: on in the same place.

: 3. Using a 15/16" socket with extension, remove the big steering wheel
: nut.

: 4. Using a steering wheel puller (can usually "borrow" one for free
: from AutoZone with a small deposit), remove the steering wheel.

: 5. Remove the plastic steering wheel column cover (close to the dash)
: by pulling it down, then out.

: 6. Reaching under the dash, disconnect the turn signal switch wiring
: harness. The connectors look like a "smile"

: 7. Remove the turn signal shaft using a small wrench on the flattened
: part to turn it.

: 8. Pull the switch and wiring harness/connector up through the
: steering column and out.

: 9. Install the new switch, assembly is the reverse of disassembly.
