Welcome! Yes, all American Mavericks came with only a 3-speed or auto. Your V6 'bird transmission is a T-5. It is different from a Mustang T-5, though, it is weaker and the shifter is mounted farther forward. You will have to get a 302 bellhousing out of a Mustang, but the shifter may not be in the right place. You'll have to use trial and error, I don't think anyone has attempted that specific swap.
California Mustang has bellhousings to convert Mustang T-5's into mechanical-clutch systems. They may be able to help.
The EFI setup is a time & money consuming project, but it is not too difficult. You need Maverick and Mustang wiring diagrams to make it work. -CP

: Hi:

: I´m a Maverick owner from Mexico, mine is a 74 2-door with a 302 and a four speed (are all american Mavericks 3-speed or automatic?) I´m trying to restomod it, but I have no mechanical experience but I think I´m very crafty and I could learn. I have a 5-speed that yanked from a thunderbird SC (blown V6) but it has a hidraulic clutch, any help, plus I have bought HO EFI gear (induction, wiring, control module and gas tank)from a Mustang which I plan to TRY to get installed later, my goal it´s to finish with someting like David Searcy did with his Fairmont (Car and Craft) and make it and all around performer, it will take time and a lot of help since I have "short pockets". My second automotive passion it´s a 76 Datsun 260Z.
