:FE stands for Ford Engine. the FE series runs from the 332 to the 428s including the 361 & 391 truck engines. They were designed from the old Y block and are actually old techology. The heads are very restrictive and require lots of work (money) to have them breathe like the 385 series engines. Fes are about 100 lbs lighter thn the 385 engines but cubic displacement is max at about 454 (427 bore x 428 crank). The 385 series are good for 800 cubes, 513 from a stock block. Both series engines are "big blocks". 385s will produce more horses faster, cheaper and easier.

An engine question. I was talking to a guy at work about the mav, (hes a MOPAR guy, but he seemed to like mavs!) and told him how many people put 351Ws into them. then he mentioned ford 390s, the ones from the early '70s trucks. and he swore up and down that the 390 was a small block. anyone know anything about this? i havent heard of anyone putting a 390 in a mav before, but dammit, i want more information before i try it first. any would be appreciated. thanks!
