I would start with a good head unit and a pair of 6x9s. Go with at least a 2 way speaker and get the best ones you can afford. They have a lot of decent speakers in the $100-150 range. For receivers $200-300 will get you a decent one also. The faceplates are fairly easy to cut and here is a tip for you. When you mount your CD player in get it as solid as you can, it will cut back on skipping. There should be a hole in the back of the unit, most don't come with a screw anymore. Find a bolt that will go into it and strap your receiver in tight. For better imageing, use some 6.5s in your front kick panels. They will sound better in your doors, except for a few details. 1 You will always have a hole there and 2 not a lot of room for a big speaker. Again I like more of a stock look. your next step would be a amp with 30 or so watts a channel. Look around for a decent 4 channel, and if you're receiver has 2 sets or RCA (preamp) outputs you will be able to fade it, or you can get one with speaker level inputs. I don't imagine you would need a bandpass box as they hit HARD within a narrow range. They are not all that musical to my ears. I like a sealed enclosure. A sealed box takes more power to make the same DBs but is much more accurate. Again, for what I think you would like I would not worry about a box. The 6x9s and 6.5s should work just fine for you. If you get a sheet of Dynamat (or something like that) I would put it on my rear deck and behind the kick panels at least. It will make a noticable difference. You can email me with any questions as I can talk for hours about this stuff.
