: Hi, I replaced my head gasket in my 1973. My mechanic friend and I got it running. I drove it five miles to work, left it sitting there for four days. When I went to take it home again it started right up and half way home, 2.5 miles, it started lugging like it wasn't getting gas. When I pressed on the gas it felt like it wanted to die. I barely made it home and now it won't run. We have checked the gas, replaced the fuel filter, checked the spark plugs and wires. Checked the points, set the timing to static, and charged the battery. We also checked the carburator to see if the float was stuck, nope. So any ideas on how to get my yellow baby back up and running would be fabulous. I know it has more years left on it but not if it sits in my garage. So thank you guys for any ideas. :-)

Have you checked to see if there is any gas in the carb when you turn it over? You need to just check each one of your basics first--air, fuel, spark. Air isn't your problem. If you're getting gas into your carb then your fuel pump is probably ok, if no gas though you've got a problem either in your fuel line (ice maybe?) or your fuel pump may be bad. Once you've established whether or not you've got fuel, you need to check for spark. Simply pull a plug out, put the wire back on and turn it over, if it sparks, then that's probably not your problem. No spark can be many things--from the simply the starter solenoid or maybe your control module (unlikely). My guess is that you've got a problem with either your fuel line or the fuel pump. It might help to post more details as to what you've done so far and the results (got fuel to carb, etc.). Good luck.
