Most junk yards will still have a good ratio rear for your 8 inch rear.
If you are going for a 1/4 mile ratio you will be giving up your intown and highway mileage. Some where in the 350's to 390's is pretty low compared to what you have. It’s not a hard job but it will take some muscle. You should be able to get the whole center section, that would be easier then trying to setup a ring and pinion. Good luck.
