first they weight the same parts, pistons, rods, rods bearings, etc. as a group and balance the weights to the lowest one. Then they take the total weights in a rotating mass and apply that to the crankshaft. If possible they usually remove weight from the crank. rearly do they ADD weight. They use the flywheel and damper because they apply to the rotating mass. Even oil is a factor for the rotating weight because it's in the crank oil passages.

: How do you balance an engine? Is it similar to wheels, by addding weights?
