I'm pretty sure they use the same case, (only internals are different). Surely there is some way to tell, can't your mechanic who you took the C5 to give you an idea?
: Okay guys, the C4 and C6 trannys are easy to tell apart, that is a given. What about the C4 and C5? Freind of mine gave me a tranny he said was a C4. I compared it to the one I took out of my Maverick, and they looked the same, no differences visible. Bought the rebuild kit and took it to a guy that came HIGHLY recomended to do the work. Turns out the tranny was a C5, which is completly useless to me as they are WEAK AS HELL!!!! I have since got another "C4" out of an '80 Granada. Everything I have read over the weekend says the C5 was only made from 82-85 so I think (hope) I'm safe. Does anyone out here in Maverick Land know how to tell difference between the C4 and C5???
