I set out to drive across country yesterday in my 71 Maverick and I had to surrender after 2 hours. It was the first time I had it on the freeway and I could barely keep it between the white lines. There is a bad nullzone in the steering where about 30 degrees of steering has no effect. The end result is when there is a gust of wind or an 18 wheeler blows by me I start careening and it is very hard to control (this is at about 70 mph). I expected a little bit of steering sloppiness but this was ridiculous. What can be done to fix this? Any ideas?
