: So, i went up to the local parts store to get some ball joints for my 75 and as im leaving i start the car and smell something funny. Just at about the same time a guy tells me ive got sparks coming from the bottom of my car. I shut it off and pop the hood just in time to find my air cleaner lid touching my relay and completing a circuit through my whole engine. Now is when i realize that my throttle cable is heating up to red hot proportions and actually starting a fire next to my carb. I blew it out quick but not before the cable was toasted. so now i dont have any use of my gas pedal. i found i was stuck with two choices. tow truck or idle home. i went with the latter and made it a block before i figured it wouldnt cut it. so, i ended up rigging the throttle linkage to a couple of shoe strings and around my mirror so i could pull it and rev the engine. i made it home and without a tow. i would like to put in my application for the macguyver award please. are these cables readily available today or is a trip to the boneyard needed?? thanks for all the help.
