I had the same problem, a old timer at this game said boy, what wrong with you ford put that themostat in there for a reason. So I said Ok I will put a 160 in, and he said boy you are as dumb as a box of rocks. Put in a 180 and it won't run any hotter. The old fart was right, if you have a good fan, shroud and radiator this may fix your problem.
