Being a person who got screwed royally by trusting a friend's friend, this what I would do. Your cheapest route would be to leave the car there, pay the money, & get your car back. However, draw up a contract on exactlly how much money was origionally agreed upon for what work was to be done. Then make a statement for the additional funds along with a disclaimer that you do not agree with these charges but you will pay them only to get your car back. Then after you get the car back, take them to small claims court. It cost less than $100 to do this. Also, most lawyers have a free initial consultation. You may try them. Most importantly, take this lesson to heart. Get everything in writting. I do now.
