I've been bitten by the Maverick bug. My goal is to build a 70 grabber into a pseudo Shelby Mav powered by a 5.0 & 5 speed from a 90 mustang. After doing some research, I've found that while the motor's a drop in, the trans isn't. If the Mav was origonally a standard car, what mod's would have to be performed to get the trans to fit?

Also, I figure that the fuel delivery system (fuel tank) would have to be updated to a tank with a baffle & provision for return lines. Does anyone know if this tank exists for mav's or would I have to adapt mustang stuff to fit or get the mav tank customized?

As for the exhaust system, I have been made aware that headers are a pain in the nuts for Mav's. Does anyone make headers for the 5.0 Mav conversion or is this a custom, made to order part too? Also, who makes a nice mandrel bent dual exhaust system for this car? I plan on getting a Dr. Gas X pipe also.

Now for the rearend and suspension. From what I have read, there is no performance rearent that's a direct bolt in for the mav. Has anyone tried to get the 8.8 in rear from a 5.0 to work? How good is the Mav suspension & brakes design? Are the Mav discs worth their salts? Does the rear suspension hold up well under power? Does anyone make suspension kits for these cars? And what type of steering pump do mav's use?

Finally, has anyone tried to install the steering column from the 90 mustangs into a Mav? I'm just worried about the reliability of theold ignition lock.

Thanks everyone.
