Fred, are you referring to the original cap for these cars, or a different one that you installed as an upgrade? The reason I ask is that I've discovered that caps from later model Mavericks won't fit the earlier cars properly - that is to say they don't line up straight. The only fix for this is to install the correct year filler neck that matches the cap.
If it's the stock cap that's giving you trouble, you might try enlarging the notches on the filler neck (take it off the car first) to allow more circular travel of the cap for proper alignment.
: With both our 72 Mav and 65 Mustang, when you attach the gas cap and turn it tight it leaves the logo in a crooked orientation. Is there any adjustment on the cap or the filler to correct this?
