respectively, i have noticed this group is very PRO- holley,
carbs.
i know that historicly, ford and holley go hand in hand. i have known of a lot people who have great success using holley products.
i personally have never had good luck with holley carburetors. (most of them being the #1850 model) its a very generic carburetor. i have never had one of these that would just "slap on, tune and go".
they required constant tweaking, and never remained consistent in performance. on my last maverick (had holley at time) i found by slightly propping open the secondaries, the car had a lot less low end stumble. aside from that, other than adding ford kickdown linkage (which worked much better with the edelbrock), there has never been much i could do to a holley externally.
the edelbrock/carters carburetors, are so easy to change springs, metering rods and jets. all of it externally, within 5 minutes.
and it doesnt void your warranty.
i am not trying to be an advertisement for any company. my preference goes toward the carter style carburetor.(i think im trying to be practical) however, i am not against using a holley. as a matter of fact, i would prefer it.
i am on this board seeking advice. someone in a previous post, recommended a #80145 holley. (this carb will be looked into) id like to know what combo's others have used an had success.
id like to hear from those who have used the carter/edelbrocks. id REALLY like to hear from those who have used both.
one thing to bear in mind....
i am broke. this aint a race car. with fuel prices being what they are, fuel economy matters. i have air conditioning and fresh internals. other than adding a 4V and dual exhaust, i dont have anything i want to add. i expect to rebuild this engine (high performance, of course) in probably the next 3-5 years. i fully expect to bid rid of both carburetor, and the performer intake.
i just need reliability. thanks for all the previous replies....
let me ask again "what is best 4V for STOCK engine?"
gimme model numbers
thanks
