: A basic tune-up is spark-plugs, setting the points and adjusting the carb. If you have points, (I think you do with a 6-cyl) it would be good to change to a Pertronix electronic ignition. They are around $80 or so but well worth the money spent if you are planning on keeping the car awhile. Cap & rotor should be replaced if they are visibly worn. I would replace them no matter what, it is cheap insurance. Wires are the same way. Change the air filter, breather and PCV valve, and run some carb cleaner through the carb, that's basically a tune-up with all the trimmings. -CP

: : HEY GUYZ!! okay, i need to tune up my 74 foor door mav SOOOOOOOOOO bad it isn't funny. i am willing to spend a little more cash to help the mav run better. what should i check out? i'm thinking mainly in the distributor area? a new one? somethine?? any recommends would be helpful.. i'm even thinking of doing new plugs and wires... maybe the cap... i dunno. i need to know what works first. I know that most mechanic shops are capable of cleaning the combustion chamber. I know that this helps ALOT. Had it done on an 89 Chevy pickup with a 350 and 180000 miles. Made a BIG difference.
