Damn, you're bitter or something. There isn't a right or wrong way to do your own car. I had never seen a Versailles swap done before I did mine. It is cheaper than a Currie kit. That's basically why I did it. And you don't have to narrow it, that's really the only reason it's worthwhile. It fits perfect in a Maverick. I didn't need the extra strength of the 9" (8" are great rearends), but I couldn't find an 8" posi for under $400, while I got a 9" 3.70:1 complete chunk w/posi for $165 in Columbus. I couldn't afford to do it any other way, and I am pleased with the results. I'm not trying to tell everyone it's the best way to go or anything. That would be a Currie narrowed 9" w/aluminum center section and Wilwood rear discs, etc. Why does it make you so pissed off when someone mentions Versailles? -CP

: :if the hassle of making things work is half the fun then doing something different should be more. everybody and their brother has done a Versailles. So what's so special and difficult about it when everyone makes a kit for it? and you'll probably have to have it narrowed anyway.
: : contact Currie Ent in LA they should have the kit or know someone that does. After all a 8" is just a small 9" in many areas. And as Charlie says, anyone can do it. So then what is special about a Versailles? And in most cases you don't need the extra weight and strenght of a 9". Especially on a smallblock car, if you use the right parts.

: things work is half the fun. You're right, its not the only way, just how I did it. It was cheaper than an aftermarket braking system, plus I got a posi rearend for cheap (8" units are more expensive). -CP

: : : Second; why buy a Versailles Rearend and go thru all the hassle of changing everything when you can get a good disc brake system from another source. And keep your factory rearend. They are out there you just have to know where to look.
: : : Everyone thinks they have to change to a Versailles rearend to get discs, THAT'S BS sports fans.

:
: : : went to the junkers today, looking a 302 to put in. fist place had them for $350, second place had them for $900, low mileage.
: : : : even if i bought one for $350 and it needed to be rebuilt, would it cross $900? which do you think is the better way to go, and are these prices realistic, or are they trying to screw me?
: : : : also, what years lincoln versailles rearends work on the 74 mav.
