The 8.8 is the better street rearend, but you'll have to weld perches on it for leaf springs, while the Versailles will bolt right in. It's not too hard to weld perches, and if the T-bird rear is not too wide, that'd be the best way to go. -CP

: :Shawn is right, the 8.8 is also lighter, if you get the gears you want in it before you put it in the 8.8 this is a good way to go. Most people don't need the strenght/weight of a 9". 8.8" is pretty strong. Gear changes are just a bitch. You can get a "c clip" elminater kit for 8.8 also. If they're both coil spring rearends, and they probably are, go with the T-bird rearend, more goodies off the start. Still might have to have them narrowed to.

: I have a '73 Maverick, an '80 Versailles(does not run), and a wrecked '88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. Does anyone know if the 8.8" rear out of the T-bird (has disc brakes and posi) will swap into a Maverick as easily as the Versaille 9"? I would go look and measure, but the Versailles and T-bird are about 100 miles away.
