I bought a Jasper remanufactured 6 cyl for my 67 mustang about 2 or 3 years ago & paid a little over $1200 (200ci). This was by my calculations about $200 to $300 more than I could have rebuilt it myself if i was to do a complete overhaul. BUT!!! Jasper motors came with a 3 yr warranty including labor. (now 5) Since I installed it myself, they would pay me to change it should there be a problem. I also bought a 400M for my Bronco & it was $1450.
I would be more suspicious of the 302 price you got more than the I6 price.
