: Are so many shops so STUPID or treat ME like an idiot?????
: Let's take this latest FUBAR. Nicky has a bad carb. Period. End of discussion. I know this because 1) Terry checked it out when I went down to see Alice, I would have had him replace it then and there but we don't happen to have one laying around. 2) I have eyes, a nose and ears and I use them. 3) The parts store said that sometimes they get in faulty carbs because "rebuilt" doesn't always mean they did it right (NOW THEY TELL ME!) 4) I can and DO read my chiltons guide, just because I can't fix it doesn't mean I don't understand what's going on.
: First I had to call a mobile mechanic to help me put the altanater back on.. hell, I saved a few bucks buy taking it off and getting it tested then replacing the voltage regulator myself. No biggy, the car needed a good local mechanic so I took it to his place to have him help me along with the other stuff. He test it out and says my whole front end it gone and I would need a tranny too. I asked him if he could replace the govener, "Nope, whole thing's toast". Great. Drive home to think over what I'm going to do when low and behold the govener goes and takes the whole thing with it.
: Take advantage of a tranny's "free tow" offer to see how bad the damage is. Get the call back, surprise surprise! The govener took out he whole thing! BUT the ONLY things the front end need is a pitman arm, shocks and alignment! (New front end MY ASS!) Also opt for a new flywheel as they have the tranny out and it's giving warning signs that it's hungery for starters.
: No prob, done and done. Get as far along with the tune up as I can without help. Plugs, cap, roter, thermostat and housing (skipping the cracked housing story... THAT worked out ok) Take it to my break shop and get confermation about pitman arm and alignment. Kevin puts distrubuter on right (I didn't screw with that part of it!). Happy Happy. Which brings me to the present. Carb is so bad it is toast! Roll into Schucks to inquire about replacement (here's where I get the "sometimes they don't work right" tale). Have to have Goodyear next door put it on (Thankfully because of all the balls ups with my carb I am getting a "labor reimbursment"). *sigh*, Because it's not their part I have to go down there, walk next door and bring them the carb and if it's missing ANYTHING (even so much as a gasket) they won't touch it until they call me. (I am sitting my happy ass down there until it's done!) Estimated time: 1 1/2 Hours. *errrr, OK..... SURE....
: *GRRRRR*
: On top of this, when I started the car yesterday I hear the familiar sound of "starter and missing flywheel teeth".... Looks like I know where I'M heading monday....

: WHY is it that shops ASSUME that A) I don't know S*** about my car B)I won't get ADDTIONAL quotes/information before I commit to having something expensive done C) That I'm stupid enough to take most of their stuff at face value??

: I KNOW Alice had similar things happen to her when I first got her, I guess it's taken this new round to find out how bad some A**holes are!!!
: I swear, next "free cash" availible I'm taking SHOP COURSES!!!!!
