Someone may have...although I doubt it.

: Anyone ever replace their alternator and voltage regulator with a newer style alternator with the internal regulator? I was wondering if it was an easy splice up job.
: Thanks

It's cheaper to stay with the external regulator. Just get a larger AMP alternator. The 5.25 goes up to 75 AMP. There is also a 6.5 that goes over 100 AMP, just have to make some alterations to the wiring harness.

Intenal Alternators I've seen start around $125-150. The stock alternator is around $40(?) and the regulator $15-20. Just saves space and makes it look purdy without the external regulator.

Could just do like the racers and put the alternator run off the drive shaft. Then relocate the regulator and battery to the trunk. Thinking of doing that myself.

Oh...not trying to be a smart ass. Just noting...
