Since literally hundreds of thousands were produced and the southern states don't have the rust problem the north has I would say the number might be closer to 100,000. Just because you don't see many on the roads doesn't mean there not in garages in operating condition.
At least that's my thought. I hope to hear more opinions. Maybe there should be a Maverick registry for any maverick still in commission.
