I do all my own painting & I average between $450 (my Mav) & $600 (my Mustang) a car for materials alone depending on the color choice & type of paint. Red is a more expensive color as well as pearls & metallics will add to the cost. Basic Ford 9A white is around $45 for a quart of single stage where as the blue I painted on my Mustang door jams, under hood & inside trunk was a factory color & a quart of single stage for it was $85. I painted the rest in base coat, clear coat. you still got primers, sand paper, fillers, hardners, thinners, etc. Plus add about a month of part time work for prep work before painting & sanding & buffing after its sprayed. Thats why a show quality paint job from a professional probably will cost you over $5000. Sparks & I painted the ass end of his 73 Mav this past weekend & used about $100 worth of materials just to do the tail light panel & quarter extensions.
