I took the longer cable and shortened it. To do this, cut the gas pedal end of the inner cable off. Heat up the outer cable shield a couple inches away from the plastic/rubber grommet that holds the cable in place as it goes through the fire wall. When heated, it will slide right off (don't overheat it!). Then very neatly cut the outer sleeve of the throttle cable to the right size (i.e. from the fire wall to the hold down bracket on the carb - add about an extra 2" for engine flex and slip into the grommet). Make sure you pull the inner cable far enough in (towards the carb end)that you don't damage it when cutting the outer shield. Slide the grommet back on, reheat the outer shield and press/hold the grommet in place until it cools. Use cable stops/locks to secure the throttle line to the gas pedal under the dash.
