: To get that kind of horsepower/torque from a 302/351 windsor will require aftermarket cylinder heads with high compression & big valves, A VERY healthy cam, headers with full 2-1/4" dual exhausts, Performer RPM or Stealth intake manifold, 4-barrel carb, hot ignition system, and plenty of $$$...
: : okay.. so here is my scenario. i finally got me another car, so the mav is free to play with!! yeah, this is cool. i am not sure what exactly to do with it though. besides fix it up i mean. here is what i was kinda looking at. this is mostly my "wish list" for the engine, the interior comes later.
: : my wish is this: i want to keep the stock 302 yet have a streetable engine that gets in the range of 300-350 naturally aspirated horsepower, with that same range of torque.
: : so what i need is you guyz out there to just throw up any and all ideas you have. this will be my "project" for the next year or however long it takes. throw out whatever ideas you want to and you can be sure i will be posting as this progresses. THANKX GUYZ!!!

: : MAVERICKS RULE!!!!
1. First, you might get luck using the stock heads, but I would definitely look into the Performer RPM AIR-GAP. Should provide just a bit more than the regular Performer RPM.
2. Get an MSD 6AL, or 6A if you wanna chance going without a rev limiter.
3. Don't go with a Mallory distributor. Their caps and rotors are "Mallory" specific and VERY costly.
4. Try to find some GOOD exhaust scavanging headers. Make those things do more than route the exhaust. Make them "pull" the exhaust outta the motor. With some Flowmasters. Make sure the headers are ceramic coated!
5. Go with an aluminum radiator, a 160 thermostat, and an electric fan.
6. Holley 600 Electric choke. Change the accelorator pump cam to the 'blue' one. This is one of the largest, but definitely helps!!! Trust me.
7. Roller rockers!!!
8. A good hi volumn oil pump.
9. Get a windage tray, and a larger oil pan. There is an 8 quart out there.
If you are gonna be getting that much HP, you better check the tranny and driveshaft! Get a loop! You sure don't want to have that driveshaft suddenly sneaking up from underneath you, if you know what I mean.
This should get you into the range that you are talking about. Good Luck!!! Let us know how it turns out!
