A drip at idle is bad. The first thing I would check is the float level. If it is set to high, fuel will drip in at an idle. If this doesn't stop the drip you're going to have to go into the carb to check for other problems. If the car backfired badly, you could have blown a power valve. If so, the carb would drip fuel. The only way to check a power valve is to pull off the float bowls and visually/vacuum test them. Another possibility is that you have dirt in one of the needle valves that prevents it from closing all the way. This isn't as likely, but is a possibility. Make sure you have a good fuel filter in line from the gas tank.

If I could make one more suggestion - a good way to resolve this would be to ask at your local speed shop who's good with Holley carbs and to pay someone a couple bucks to look at and fine tune the carb for you. What would take you 3 hours to do, some of these guys can do in 10 minutes. It might be worth your time and effort.
