The only way to increase stroke is to change the crankshaft. If you increase the rod length, the only thing you are doing is changing the length of time that the piston stays at top dead center. Long rod engines tend to produce a little more power, but not as much as stroking a motor. Also, if you do use longer rods, you have to use a shorter piston which can reduce rotating weight, which means a little quicker revving engine.
