Yes, the vaccuum leak could be the problem...

Cover the top of the carb with your hand, sealing off the choke housing as best you can. If the car keeps running then you have a bad vaccuum leak. Listen for where the air is rushing in, the noise should be significant because then it will be all the air the engine is using coming in through the leak. This is safer than the propane or carb cleaner method. However, it isn't always effective and if you cant hear it then go for the propane. -CP


: i have a 200 6cylinder 71 mav grabber...im having problems with her....i was driving and she started sputtering and trying to cut off...it has a small leak on the intake manifold...could this be my problem...it wont stay running and keeps sputtering like its being choked out...and the smell of gas is strong...i have a new fuel filter,fuel pump,and a clean carbbuator..ive adjusted the air/fuel mixture from one extreme to the other,torqued down the bolts on the manifold,ive even tried talking nicely to her and nothing works.i dont want to take the whole damn thing apart if its not the gasket on the manifold....please respond asap because this is my only sorce of transportation...she was running fine and all of a sudden this happens..if i red line it it will keep running with a frequent sputter....
