Brian; sounds like the timing is about 180degrees out. Bring #1 piston
to top dead center, on the compression stroke, and pull the distributer
cap. The rotor button should point to the #1 plug wire on the cap. If not,
pull the distributer out, and set it to do so. What is happening is that
the engine is firing through an exhause valve while open, and up through
the carb it comes. This is dangerous, as the gas is atomized, and that is
fairly explosive. Good luck, and hope your Mav runs like new when you're
