: This morning on my way to work, I found myself lined up next to a late 60s/early 70s Maverick, from what I could tell from looking around this site. Being heavily exposed to imports over the last few years, I don't know a whole lot about classic domestics like the maverick (yeah, I know, its sad), so I wasn't even 100% sure it was a ford at the time. the mav had dual exhausts with turndowns after the mufflers, so I figured it was probably a v8, and judging from the tires, probably close to stock or maybe lightly modified. Now I normally don't go around racing on the street, but I was in the left lane and had to get over to the right lane before the next light, a bit more than a 1/4 mile ahead.
: Light turned green, and I took off kind of quick, slipping the clutch. The maverick took off too, and as soon as I noticed I floored it, and he did the same. I pulled a little bit in 1st gear his front bumper was about even with my front fender. I held it to 8500rpm and hit second with a little wheelspin and maybe pulled another foot, but he was still there, right at my door. 8500 and hit a clean shift to 3rd and he was hanging right there with me, both our engines screaming. I started coming up on some cars in my lane, so I shut it down at about 80mph or so and got behind him and then to his right, and hit my window switch. We both had huge smiles on our faces and we gave eachother a "thumbs up". One of the closest races I have ever been in. I wouldn't even call it a kill, because we were so darn close, it could have gone either way.
: btw, I have a 95 gsr with some headwork, type R cams, I/H/E and a throttle body. a few years ago, it ran a best of 14.023 at 97 mph on slicks, but since then I put the catalytic converter back in, and have another 30k miles on it, so it maybe runs mid to high 14s on street tires now.
: But I think I got lucky with this maverick, which most likely had a very mild 302 in it. because I know a couple of people with 302 fox body stangs that would blow my doors off. But it was pretty amazing that 2 cars that are so different could be so close.
: anyway, I started checking out your maverick site to learn a bit more about the cars, because they look pretty cool.
The Integra has only 4 cylinders, and 104 cubic inches. That Maverick has an engine that displaces THREE TIMES AS MUCH. That integra box stock can reach 130 MPH, while providing low 15 second ET'S! In stock form the Integra GSR can also pull more than 0.8 g on the skid pad! The integra is comfy, quiet good stereo and gets better than 30MPG! It's also only about $19,000.00. Has a 48/48 warrenty. It's safer has air bags.
Only one question:
Did you have the AC on whan you ran that troglidite?
I thank GOD that I also own one!!
