: ...You'll need some big forearms for parking-lot manuevers, but when you're rolling you won't miss the boost. If that's too much, then keep th estock setup & get a smaller steering wheel. The power steering is way overboosted & the smaller diameter will actually bring back some "feel". TL's right about the oversteer..Mav's are notoriously nose-heavy. If you are oversteering, you need to look elsewhere for the cause. If you jacked up the rear, then look no further;-)

i may have oversteer and understeer confused. but the fact is the power steering isnt necessary or appreciated.
my new 72 is a shining example of a maverick. i hate to deface it in anyway considering the exceptional shape the car is in.
the problem with the PS is i have no true feel of the road.
if a smaller steering wheel can help improve in this respect, id just as soon go that route.
my engine and transmission are new, and the AC is intact but does need servicing. if i can keep the car original until its time to install muscles, that is the preferred route.
but when the day comes that i want to rock and roll, the ps and ac must go.
thanks for the replies
