Ok, I’ve just done the P/S removal my self TODAY & it’s very simple.
1.- Moog Suspension parts sells the complete front end suspension & steering parts.
2.- to really get rid of you understeer problem you should replace the whole front suspension & the steering.
3.- you keep the steering box, you buy the pitman & auxiliary arms with the standard (not p/s ) steering rod the 2 inner & 2 outer tie rod ends.
4.- with basic mechanic knowledge you can change the new parts, but take your Mav to a good alignment shop for the final alignment.
I really suggest you change the full front end with either Moog or P-S-T www.p-s-t.com suspension parts.
After aligning the car, the understeer cure a lot & the car rides very smooth, almost like new!!!!!!
: : That is what I did. I took all the power steering stuff out except the box.
: : I went to the junk yard and took the draglink and pitman arm off of a manual
: : steering Mav. I did this because my headers were in the way of my slave cylinder for
: : the power steering, and the bracket they said would relocate the slave cylinder
: : downward didn't move it out of the way enough. Turning the wheel while stopped
: : or at low speed is harder but not too bad. High speed feel is good.
: ::: I did the same thing Ryan did. Got my center link with tierods and pitman arm from a junk yard. I have a'71 and the parts came from a '76. The drag link is dif. so I have to get a '76 drag link. I'm doing some heavier forearm curls to compensate. LOL. Bill
