As many of you know or don't know, my dad is a general Manager at a Ford Dealership and has sold new Fords himself in various degrees since 1958.
The Contour/Mystique replaced the Tempo/Topaz, which replaced the Fairmount/Zepher, which replaced the Maverick/Comet.
The Contour has always been a hard car to sell...prise wise. The Escorts are cheaper, and just about as roomy. The Taurus, with all the rebates and incentives, is only about a grand more than the Contour....and the Taurus is a lot more "car' for the money. People looking for a reasonably priced car opted for the Escort. People looking for a roomy family car opted for the Taurus. For what the contour is...it is really kind of expensive compared to what else Ford sells.
that is the "inside" scoop.

: : Did anybody see this? I just read at Blue Oval News that Ford might revive the Maverick name on of all things a mini SUV! I hope they keep the logo and emblems at least. Might have to buy one to complete the set. No, I don't think so.
: Ford dose make an SUV by the name Maverick sold down under. I beleive it is one of those "badge engineered" Nissans. I agree with T.L about the brilliant decission makers at FOMOCO. I have a Contour( V6 5sp )which Ford chose not to market in the US after this year. It is one of the best Fords I have owned since my '71 Mav 29 years ago. The Contour(Mondeo) will continue to be sold elsewhere in the world. Sound familiar? (Mavs in Brazil and Mexico). WAKE UP FOMOCO hire some marketing executives! Sorry folks, got carried away. I guess 30 years from now some people in the Int. Contour/Mystique Club will be looking for SVT Contour parts the way we look for Grabber/GT parts. Lets hope so. Bill
